Abstract
Flowerbulbs contain a variety of reserve carbohydrates, including soluble sugars, starch, glucomannan, and fructan.
Although our knowledge of the metabolism of carbohydrates in geophytes is somewhat limited, we may make inferences from concepts developed in other crops.
Advances in analytical techniques will allow in-depth investigation of reserve carbohydrate metabolism, and will allow accelerated progress in the future.
