Abstract
Petén is the most northern department of Guatemala, with a great diversity of plants.
Many of them are used in domestic medicine by people who live scattered in this vast part, remote from places where they get medical attention.
Many of them are used in domestic medicine by people who live scattered in this vast part, remote from places where they get medical attention.
Those plants are very often the only source for the treatment of affections like Malaria and Leishmaniasis.
There are plants reported to be very effective against snake bites, even of the Bothrops asper, one of the most poinsonous snakes.
There is very little information and scientific investigation related with the medicinal plats in this part of Guatemala, in spite of a very rich vegetation.
