Abstract
Turkey has optimum climatic conditions for vegetable seed production.
Total production in 1992 was 750 tons.
Ninety seven percent of this production was by private companies, the balance from governmental institutions.
However, the majority of seeds sold by private companies is imported.
Usage of F1 hybrid seeds is very common, especially in off-season growing of tomato, cucumber, and aubergine.
Financial support is needed in order to develop new technologies and varieties within the country rather than continuing a dependence upon importation.
