Abstract
Recently the government of Indonesia allows private and public investments to exploit sago palms commercially.
The aim of the paper is to assess whether the sago forest conditions will appropriate the investors and society through a specific cost-benefit study in Indonesia.
Another objective is to examine the limitations of cost-benefit analysis in sago utilisation in Indonesia.

Based on the study, it can be shown that the project looks worthwhile at a 15 per cent discount rate indicated by the values of Net Present Value, B/C ratio and Internal Rate of Returns from the investors point of view.
Although cost-benefit analysis has not fully been undertaken, it can be seen that there are several practical limitations of this analysis.
