DEVELOPMENT OF A CONTROL METHOD OF FUSARIUM CROWN AND ROOT ROT IN FRANCE
Several teams have joined their efforts for 1990 in order to carry out a control method against the pathogen.
In vitro testing of twenty fungicides allowed the disposal of three commercial products, showing strong antifungal activity against Fusarium sp.
Fungicide efficacy was confirmed when 6 weeks old seedlings grown in test tubes were infected by Fusarium.
Most activity was observed when preventive applications were carried out while curative effects were rather limited.
In the field, a standard procedure has been developed where artificial contamination of Fusarium in containers (50 liters) induced strong symptoms of disease.
It was shown that F. moniliforme populations overwinter well in the soil containers but symptoms were only observed in summer of the year following inoculation.
Perspectives in integrated control of F. moniliforme are discussed in regard of F. moniliforme biology and epidemiology.
