Abstract
The occurrence of poorly-filled, imperfect (I) persimmon seeds were compared with Maekawa-Jiro’ (MK-J’) and Saijo’ (SJ’) crossed by three pollen parents.
Chromosome numbers of embryos exised from seeds of MK-J’ were investigated to clarify the cause of the occurrence of imperfect seed.

MK-J’ and SJ’ were used as seed parents and Zenjimaru, Nishi-murawase and Hanagosho as pollen parents.
The frequency and size of perfect (P) and imperfect (I) seeds were compared at summer and at harvest season.

The poorly-filled imperfect seed of MK-J and SJ were thinner than perfect seed of them, and the shorter (S) and equal (L) two types of seedlength in MK-J were found, but L type imperfect seed in SJ were hardly found.
The somatic chromosome number of the embryos derived from perfect seed in MK-J were 90, but those number in L type imperfect seed ranged from 83 to 88. We postulate that the occurrence of L type imperfect seed with the degeneration of endosperm since 12 weeks after full bloom caused by heritability imbalance due to heteroploid.
