EVALUATION OF PROCESSING-GUAVA CULTIVARS (PSIDIUM GUAJAVA L.) UNDER SEMI-ARID CONDITIONS OF PERNAMBUCO STATE. BRAZIL

Abstract
Among tropical fruit species, guava trees provide one of the main raw materials for the processing industry of jams. juice and pulp.
Aiming to evaluate the performance of eight processing – guava cultivars (Pera Vermelha, Red Selection of Florida, Tipo Redonda Grande, IAC-4, Seleçoes IPA B-18, IPA B-22, IPA B-24 and IPA B-29), under the semi-arid conditions of "Chapada do Araripe" (Araripe’s Tableland). An experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design. with 5 replicates, where the following parameters were observed: yield (kg/tree). productivity (t/ha) and number of fruits per tree.
Guava trees evaluated during conditions without the use of irrigation.
IAC-4 showed the highest performance among other cultivars for the high number of fruits per tree produced, with higher production being achieved when plants were 7 years old.
Irregular rainfalls affected negatively fruit production of all cultivars.
