Abstract
The objective of this project was to determine the relative salt tolerance, in an established orchard setting, of the four major pistachio rootstocks used in the west side of the San Joaquin Valley.
Five different ECw treatments, 0.5, 2.0, 4.0, 6.0, and 8.0 were applied through the 1994, 1995 and 1996 irrigation seasons.
Treatments were designed to approximate drainage waters with Na, SO4, C1, and Ca, predominating in that order, with a Na:Ca ratio of 2 and boron added up to 4 ppm.
Trends within the data suggest yield of the hybrid rootstocks UCB- 1 and Pioneer Gold II may be deleteriously affected by two full irrigation seasons (1995 and 1996) using 8 dS/m irrigation water.
There were no significant differences among treatments for each rootstock as indicated by yield and percentage of split nuts.
Results suggest pistachios tolerate in season irrigation with blended drainage water.
