Abstract
AFLP strategy is developed in rose for variety identification purposes.
With 12 pre-screened primer combinations, 322 AFLP markers have been generated using 13 modern rose varieties.
The polymorphic band positions per primer pair ranged from 21 to 39, with an average of 26.8 markers per primer combination.
The polymorphic information content (PIC) values varied from 0.26 to 0.50, giving a mean of 0.40. The simple matching coefficient of Sneath and Sokal (1973) was computed to measure the genetic similarity for each pair of varieties; it ranged from 0.47 to 0.66 (mean = 0.56). The intra-variety variability was also evaluated by AFLPs on two rose varieties; no such variability was revealed on the two varieties studied.
The AFLPs were assayed to try to differentiate close varieties or varieties showing no morphological difference.
