UTILIZATION OF PARTHENOGENETIC DIPLOID PLANTS OF ROSA HYBRIDA L. IN INTERSPECIFIC HYBRIDIZATIONS

Abstract
A program of haploidization of R. hybrida L. through parthenogenesis and in vitro embryo rescue resulted in the obtention of diploid plants.
Their male fertility, assessed on young plants, is variable but usually very low (the abortion rate of the pollen is often higher than 90%) and generally imposes the use of the parthenogenetic diploid plants as females.
Up to now, all the tested botanical species of the subgenus Eurosa (6 diploid species = R. gigantea Coll., R. multiflora Thunb., R. wichuraiana Crép., R..rugosa Thunb., R. laevigata Michx.
Sand R. bracteata Wendl., 1 hexaploid = R. moyesii Hemls. et Wils.) crossed with the parthenogenetic R. hybrida produced enlarged achenes with viable embryos.

The results of the hip and achene sets are probably related to the relative contribution of the different species to the merger of R. hybrida. Some hybrids vary in their ploidy level and their recurrent flowering ability.
Several diploid ones produce viable pollen.
