THE USE OF MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI IN THE GROWING OF BLUEBERRY PLANTS (VACCINIUM CORYMBOSUM L.)

Abstract
Highbush blueberries and fungi in natural and arable soil are able to establish ericoid mycorrhizal symbiosis between them.
One-year-old plants of the varieties Jersey and Blueray were inoculated with the fungi Oidiodendron rhodogenum and Oidiodendron griseum, which had been isolated from the roots of a highbush blueberry plant growing in a marshy area.
Mycorrhizal inoculum grew on vermiculite and peat soaked with a liquid nutrient medium.
Inoculum was added to the plants during the first transplantation.

The influence of the fungi on nitrogen and phosphorus absorption, on the protection against pathogenic micro-organisms and on tolerance to stress situations, was shown by better growth and branching of shoots, larger leaf area and leaf dry matter.
