THE PRESENT STATUS OF INTEGRATED FRUIT PRODUCTION IN CATALANIA (SPAIN) AND THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE SPECIFIC IFP POME FRUIT RULES TO THE IOBC EUROPEAN GUIDE-LINES

Since 1995, Catalonia (NE region of Spain) has been producing pome fruits, mostly apples, under an Integrated Production (IP) methodology.
At present, it has IP guidelines for apples, pears, tomatoes and citrus fruits.
Other regions also have IFP guidelines and some others use integrated pest management (IPM) technologies for several crops and intend to achieve IP systems in the forthcoming years.

General aspects of IP in Spain and particularly the present status of Integrated Fruit Production in the Catalonia region are discussed.
The reasons for adopting IFP methodology by the growers, as well as the tools used to implement IFP and the agronomic and administrative comments after three years of practicing IFP, are also pointed out.

References to the adjustment of the Catalonia IFP pome fruits rules to the IOBC guidelines as well as present IFP handicaps and trends for the immediate future are also included.
