Abstract
In 1972 and 1973 crossbreedings between the cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon Ait.) and the cowberry (Vaccinium vitis idaea L.) were carried out to a large extent at the Institute for Fruit-Growing at the Technical University of Munich in Freising-Weihenstephan.
A report is given on the selection of crossing partners, pollination techniques, the preliminary crossing results and the sowing technique as well as the cultivation of seedlings.
The combination cowberry venus x cranberry uranus led to an essentially higher success quota than the reverse crossing.

The 365 plants emerging from the crossings showed distinct intermediary shapes with strong segregation.
The first blossoms appear after 2 years in many hybrids.
Despite intensive pollination attempts, all blossoms have remained sterile to date.

In 1974 and 1975 further crossings were carried out to a small extent.
In doing so, the bogberry (Vaccinium oxycoccus L.) was included in the experiments.

In addition, trials were being made with the colchicinization of cowberry seeds.
