Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate phyllotactic transition according to bulb maturity, size, and cold treatment in Lilium Oriental ‘Casa Blanca’. The bulbs were harvested at the intervals of 10 or 30 days after flowering (DAF), and then stored for 40, 50, 60, and 70 days at 4± 1° C. The bulbs with 6-8, 10-12, and 14-16 cm circumferences were used. The phyllotactic transition from spiral pattern to alternate pattern steadily decreased during bulb maturation (later bulb harvest date). The rate of phyllotactic transition to alternate pattern showed 100% in immature bulbs harvested at flowering regardless of bulb size. However, that decreased from 100 to 16.7% in the mature bulbs harvested 60 DAF as the bulb size increased. As cold duration increased, the rate of phyllotactic transition also decreased, and alternate pattern was found progressively further up the shoot.
Phyllotactic transition was affected by the timing of leaf primordia initiation, also that was considered to be a rejuvenation process.
