Abstract
SRA-58 Persian lime trees (Citrus latifolia Tan.) grafted on Citrus macrophylla West., were inoculated one year after planting with four viroid isolates to evaluate the effects on the growth, production and production efficiency variables up to five years after planting.
Isolates PM 26-X and CL 14-24 (carriers of cachexia and exocortis diseases, respectively) significantly affected the height of the plants.
The plants inoculated with CL 14-24 attained the highest production efficiency among all the treatments studied, while PM-26x had an 80% lethal effect on the trees between the fourth and fifth years, confirming the high susceptibility of this rootstock to the pathogen under Cuban conditions.
The CL 14-24 inoculated Persian Lime trees appear to have commercial potential for higher density plantings under Cuban conditions.
