EFFECT OF DIFFERENT IRRIGATION SCHEDULING OF TOMATO LEAF AREA IN MOUND CULTURE

The effect of different irrigation (-15 hPa & 300 ml per dripper, -80 hPa & 250 ml, -150 hPa & 210 ml, and –250 hPa & 170 ml) was evaluated using `Pannovy` an indeterminate tomato variety at Research Institute Geisenheim, Germany in 2001. The plants were grown in mound culture using peat media and typical Geisenheim production practices.
There was no significant effect on LAI with reducing irrigation from -15 hPa & 300 ml to -250 hPa & 170 ml.
The total number of leaves and leaf weight were not affected during the first three months of the growth stage.
Based on the fruit weight, water tension decreased the marketable fruits, but the green fruits increased.
An increase of leaf area, total number of leaves, and leaves weight, and marketable and green tomatoes occurred with an increase of high water supply (-15 hPa & 300 ml) from the end of the first three months to the end of harvesting time.
