Abstract
In order to develop an irrigation management program for vineyards under Mediterranean climatic conditions, an irrigation trial was initiated near Madrid, Spain in 2002. Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines (Vitis vinifera) grafted onto SO4 planted to row and vine spacings of 2.5 and 1.1 m, respectively, were used.
Vines were vertically shoot positioned.
Three treatments were used: T1 – applied water at 0.45 of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) throughout the irrigation program, T2 – applied water at 0.2 of ETo until veraison and then 0.45 of ETo thereafter, and T3 – applied water amounts of 0.45 of ETo using the Partial Rootzone Drying (PRD) technique.
The irrigation treatments commenced when shoot growth had ceased.
Yield components, must composition, and ecophysiological parameters were measured.
There were no significant differences in yield components or must composition among treatments.
