Abstract
The VIR collection of leafy Brassica rapa L. including 525 accessions of five crops was divided into 27 cultivar types.
Biochemical composition of all crops and cultivar types has been investigated.
Among the cultivar types the sources of nutritive and bioactive substances were revealed.
According to our study the most valuable crops among the leafy brassicas (2n=20) are tatsoi, the cultivar types of Chinese cabbage, pak-choi that derived from natural hybrids with tatsoi (Hikoshimana, Hiroshimana and Ju-Tsai), and mibuna.
The best source of nutritive compounds amongst Chinese cabbage heading cultivars, which included a high protein content and low level of nitrates, was found in the cultivar type Granat, which originated from North-Eastern China, and Nozaki, from Japan.
