Abstract
American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium L.) is a valuable medicinal plant, originated from deciduous forests of North America.
Its roots contain biologically active substances called ginsenosides which are known for adaptogenic, immunostimulating and anti-aging properties.
Canada and the USA are the main raw material producers, however, attempts of its cultivation have been made in many other countries (i.e. in China, Australia, New Zealand and Poland). Three-year field experiment was located on light loamy sand.
The effects of Alkalin PK 10:20 (foliar fertilizer with very high pH-11.5, reach in potassium and phosphorus) application (0.33%) on American ginseng growth and development as well as disease infestation were studied.
Alkaline PK 10:20 application positively affected American ginseng root and aboveground part quality parameters.
It also limited plant infestation in three consecutive years of vegetation.
