Abstract
Japanese plum exhibits gametophytic self-incompatibility and thus many cultivars are inter-incompatible.
In this work, two methods were used to determine the compatibility among 54 Japanese plum cultivars.
S-alleles of each cultivar were determined by PCR amplification of the S-RNase and cross-pollinations experiments, followed by microscope observation of pollen tube growth in the style, were done to test cross-compatibility among some of the cultivars.
The results allowed grouping the cultivars in their corresponding Incompatibility Groups.
