Abstract
Ananas comosus belongs to the Bromelaiceae family in which 56 genera and 2796 cultivars have been found .This plant is a perennial and monocotyledon.
Some species and genus of this family are planted as an ornamental plant.
Because it contains bromelain, this plant has medical importance.
In this research, the anatomical structure and antimicrobial effect of alcoholic leaf extract have been studied.
The study of leaf structure of two cultivars of pineapple, with acanthaceous and smooth leaf, has been done by usual cell-histological methods.
In this research antimicrobial properties of ethanolic extracts (75%) of these cultivars of pineapple, on Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus anthracis by using streak culture, using routine methods, appling the Muller-Hinton Agar, punch well method and measuring the diameter of inhibitory zone were studied.
The results show that higher antimicrobial effect on ethanolic extracts (75%) belonged to the smooth leaf of inhibitory zone.
For anatomical structures, fiber caps around vascular bundles in acanthaceous leaf were more than smooth leaf cultivars.
Although xylem vascular bundles in smooth leaf were more numerous and separated than acanthaceous leaf cultivars.
Through epidermal tissue, fiber bundles in acanthaceous leaf were more than smooth leaf cultivars.
As a whole, it seems that because of harder environmental conditions the acanthaceous leaf has more protective tissues and less antimicrobial effect than smooth leaf cultivars.
