MACRO- AND MICROELEMENT CONCENTRATIONS IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF “ON”- AND “OFF”-YEAR ‘KIRMIZI’ PISTACHIO TREES

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the mineral element concentrations in different parts of Kirmizi pistachio trees during the 2003-2004 growing season.
This research was carried on 35-year old, fruitful or unfruitful (showing alternate bearing) trees that were grafted on Pistacia vera rootstock at the Ceylanpinar State Farm near Sanliurfa, Turkey.
The analysis of leaf samples collected from bearing and non-bearing trees suggested that nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and calcium (Ca) concentrations were not sufficient for proper tree health and productivity, whereas potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu) concentrations fell within adequacy ranges published for pistachio.
Zinc (Zn) concentrations were higher and fell within adequate ranges in bearing trees but were insufficient in non-bearing trees.
Although soil nutritional status suggested adequate fertility, phytoavailability of some soil nutrients likely was restricted of high Ca levels, high pH, low soil moisture content, and high air temperature.
