Abstract
As timing of vegetable growing depends on the utilization of production capacities a model was constructed to solve the problem.
Besides timing it determines the full and cntinuous utilization of capacities, their minimum requirement with the aim to obtain maximal results.

The method is illustrated by processing tomato production.
Timing is represented by combining scheduled sowing dates and different varieties. 2 solution were worked out: for hand picking and machine harvesting following hand picking.
Besides supplying processing lines the minimum labour requirement and the continous employment of man and machine had to be established with the aim to obtain maximal results.

Both solutions gave satisfying results.
In both cases 4000 t tomato was produced on 100 ha.
In the first solution season lasted 2 months with one month full capacity utilization with half a month for the fore- and after-season.
Labour required 200 workers, with 2 million Fts gain.

In the second solution utilization of the juice line corresponded to that of the first one but the after-season is one pentade shorter.
Combines were almost fully in use for a month and half.
Labour was released by 10. September, Utilization was steady and continous with 48 workers.
