Abstract
The induction of flower initiation in chrysanthemums in long days was studied as influenced by the age of the stock plants of year-round cultivars.
The duration of vegetative growth was quantified by the number of leaves initiated prior to flower initiation.

The age of the stock plants (1–7 months), or the order of the stock plant shoot from which the cutting had been taken, had no significant influence on flower initiation in the terminal apical meristem in long days.
The duration of the vegetative growth decreased proportionally with the number of leaves produced on the shoot when the cutting was taken; however, it was not influenced by the number of previous shoots, i.e. by the order of shoots on the stock plant.
