PREHARVEST TREATMENT OF CHRYSANTHEMUM AGAINST BOTRYTIS CINEREA

Botrytis cinerea is an important pathogen of Chrysanthemum flowers.
It causes brown spots on the florets and rotting of florets and bracts.
These symptoms often occur in the days after harvest during storage and transportation.
They considerably reduce the quality of the flower or may even turn them worthless.

Control is possible by keeping the relative humidity in the glasshouse at a low level by cultural measures such as ventilation and heating.
In addition a preharvest treatment with vinclozolin (Ronilan) will give adequate control.
This fungicide must be applied with a thermal fogging machine at a rate of 300 ml of a 50% flowable formulation per 1000 m² of glasshouse.
