Abstract
The ornamental plant industry in Hawaii, and worldwide, depends on the creation and introduction of improved cultivars.
Described here are several techniques and strategies used to develop improved cultivars of dracaena, gingers, stephanotis, several landscape tree species and a dendrobium orchid.
The strategies include traditional breeding, polyploidy induction, radiation induced mutations and virus eradication.
