Abstract
SYDRA is a Dephy EXPE research project, part of the French Ecophyto II plan, coordinated by the IFPC (French Institute for Cider Productions) in partnership with cider apple growers and field advisors.
The aim is to design, test and assess the technical feasibility and the economical, environmental, social and agronomical performances of five very low-phytosanitary-input cider apple orchards.
Based on agroecosystem diversification and optimized pest regulation, these orchard prototypes are mainly established under field conditions in commercial cider apple orchards spread out in the Normandy region, the first cider-apple producing area in France.
The project also aims at experimenting new combinations of agroecological practices for existing cider orchards in their productive phase for which the redesign is more limited.
This paper focuses on the general approach used to design the experimented orchards prototypes.
