Abstract
The mango, Mangifera indica L. (Anacardiaceae), is the best known and most widely cultivated species in the genus Mangifera. There are over 69 Mangifera species currently recognized in Southeast Asia, with many species locally rare and/or included on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. M. casturi is reported as extinct in the wild, although fruit of Mangifera casturi are sold at fruit markets in the South of Kalimatan from cultivated trees.
Local agricultural services are conducting a survey of trees and there is an effort for their preservation being made by propagating trees for the local community.
A general review of this species is presented in this paper, including an update of accessions existing in the United States and the South of Kalimantan, Indonesia.
