Role of biostimulants in fertilization of mangoes

Abstract
Biostimulants represent a class of substances that, when applied to plants, naturally promote plant development and metabolism.
These compounds play a crucial role in promoting growth, enhancing resistance to environmental stresses, and improving the nutritional efficiency of plants.
The significance of biostimulants in modern mango production is tied to the pursuit of sustainable practices, aiming to optimize fruit yields in a more efficient and ecologically friendly manner.
In this sense, part of the present review was presented during the XIII International Mango Symposium, in the aims to better understand the definition and common composition of biostimulants, their effects on plants in relation to benefits especially for mango crop and, finally, identify the challenges and future perspectives of biostimulants’ use in mango plants.
The actual knowledge about biostimulants’ effects in mango plants indicate positive effects on nutritional balance, branch maturation, flowering uniformity, alleviation of abiotic stresses through biochemical and gas exchanges approaches, fruit retention, fruit yield and quality.
On the other hand, the biostimulant effect depends on the mango cultivar, stress level, phenological phase, nutritional status and, no less important, the composition biostimulant (algae extracts, amino acids, proteins, yeast, microorganisms, nutrients, etc.) as presented in scientific literature.
It is clear that some demands are necessary such as more specific compositions, more specific targets, lower doses, adjust fertilizing with biostimulant and different cultivar effects, which consists gaps in the scientific literature and depends on applied research, under field and climate condition of each producing region.
