Abstract
The House of Artemisia Migori has undertaken practical and observational studies to explore the therapeutic potential of Artemisia annua and Artemisia afra in the management of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria.
This abstract integrates findings from two clinical case studies and the standardized Artemiel preparation process, illustrating both curative and prophylactic outcomes achieved through locally produced Artemisia-based treatments (Roesch et al., 2025). The case involved a 35-year-old female presenting with fever, anorexia, and joint pain.
Despite initial treatment with artemether-lumefantrine, parasitemia persisted.
Subsequently, A. annua was administered at a dosage of 1 g, three times daily for seven days.
It was prepared as a mixture of two parts honey and one part powder.
Complete symptom resolution and parasite clearance were achieved within 28 days.
After the 28-day observation period, Artemisia annua was administered for prophylaxis at a dosage of 1 g, every two days.
The Artemiel preparation, derived from dried A. annua or A. afra finely powdered and mixed with honey in a 2:1 ratio, offers a palatable, accessible formulation for malaria management.
These results highlight the potential of Artemisia-based therapies as suitable interventions, particularly in low-resource settings where malaria remains endemic.
Through its community-driven approach and commitment to sustainable local production, the House of Artemisia Migori continues to contribute meaningfully to the regional fight against malaria, using Artemisia.
