Enhancing the postharvest preservation potential of Schotia brachypetala extracts through encapsulation

Abstract
This study explores the postharvest preservation potential of Schotia brachypetala by encapsulating S. brachypetala extracts using Opuntia ficus-indica mucilage and gum Arabic as wall materials.
The encapsulation aimed to improve the stability and efficacy of the bioactive compounds during storage.
Colour, water activity, moisture content, phytochemical attributes, and antioxidant activity of the extracts were evaluated.
The results indicated that encapsulation preserved the bioactive compounds while maintaining favourable colour characteristics.
While the stability of the encapsulated powder was also ensured.
This approach offers a promising strategy for developing effective, natural bioactive formulations for postharvest preservation of fruits, contributing to sustainable food safety and quality enhancement.
