Abstract
Four roses cvs: Mercedes, Sonia, Visa and Golden Times were grown under 4 different night-temperature regimes.
The regimes were: 1) constant 18°C; 2) constant 14°C; 3) 18°C until midnight followed by 14°C until 1 hour before sunrise; and 4) 18°C alternated every 2h by 12°C. Minimal temperature of 18°C was maintained from 1h before sunrise in all the treatments.
- Lower temperature regimes resulted in an increase in the time-period required for flower development.
The flower production was lowest under the constant low temperature regime. - The number of flowers produced under the two partial heating regimes was similar to the constant high temperature.
However, alternating the temperature every 2h stimulated the flower production in cv Golden Times.
Under this regime 28 percent more flowers were produced in comparison to constant temperature of 18°C.
