Abstract
Experiments have demonstrated the superiority of sub-tropical rootstocks over the more commonly used deciduous and winter hardy R. canina and R. canina selections.
Generally, R. indica Major has given the best and most consistent results increasing overall production and winter production in particular.
Recent experiments have shown that a number of glasshouse rose varieties appear to be particularly suited to culture in rockwool; some varieties performing well when grown on their own roots.
In a current experiment Sonia on R. indica Major has produced more marketable blooms than those on their own roots.
Ilona, however, showed the reverse effect with consistently lower production on R. indica Major.
In both cases the effect was greater than 10%.
