VARIABILITY OF CROPS OF ROSE BUSHES GROWN UNDER A PLASTIC TUNNEL

Abstract
Three rose cultivars (Sonia, Carina, Ilona) were grown under an unheated plastic tunnel.
The variability of 180 bushes of each cultivar was tested over a five year period.
Roses were grafted on Rosa canina stock.

The cultivars showed similar crop dynamics in the growing years.
The flower increased up to the third year of cultivation; fourth and fifth year crops were similar and decreased in comparison with the third year of cultivation.

The number of flowers produced by singular bushes showed a great coefficient variability, which rose to 48%. The changes in the number of cut flowers depended on the plant and on the cultivar.
Cultivar Ilona had a larger variability of bushes than other cultivars used in this experiment.
The coefficient variability of the rose crop was largest in the first and fifth years of cultivation.
The average of the coefficient for the following years was: 45%, 33%, 39%, 40%, 43%.
