Abstract
Three improved early fruiting highbush blueberry cultivars have been selected from a population of E118 ("Ashworth" x "Earliblue") x "Bluecrop" seedlings for commercial release. "Puru", "Nui" and "Reka" will enable fresh market growers to fully capitalise on early market opportunities.
Collectively, fruit maturity of all 3 cultivars is similar to "Earliblue" but fruit yield and quality is superior. "Puru" and "Nui" produce moderate yields of very large fruit with good colour and flavour. "Reka" produces heavy early yields of moderate size fruit.
All display varying ability to produce light autumn crops on current season’s wood.
Crop characteristics of all 3 cultivars enables rapid handling of the fruit at harvest and facilitates high export packout at grading.
