Abstract
In the FRG we have about 500 ha of commercial Vaccinium plantations, mainly situated in the northern part of the country.
About 90% of this area is planted with Vaccinium corymbosum, about 10% with Vaccinium vitis idea. There is no commercial production of Vaccinium macrocarpon in our country.

Different management practices are applied, depending on the location and properties of the site and the size of the plantation.

There are no severe problems with plant diseases.

The main research work is concerned with:

  • Varieties, suitable for our climatic and soil conditions.

  • Nitrogen fertilization of Vaccinium corymbosum.

  • Nutrition of Vaccinium vitis idea.

  • Physical properties of "Vaccinium – sites".

  • Special "replant problems" with Vaccinium corymbosum on sites previously used for agricultural crops.

  • Short-time storage of Vaccinium corymbosum.

  • Mechanical harvesting of Vaccinium vitis idea.

Research programs are started on:

  • Micropropagation of Vaccinium-species

  • training of Vaccinium vitis idea for mechanical harvesting.
