Abstract
Te best time of GA3 treatment to produce a good set of good quality fruits has been evaluated in ‘Agua de Aranjuez’ pear.
Early treatment, with 10 ppm, at flowering or with two consequetive treatments of 5 ppm, one applied at flowering and the other applied at petal fall, produced mishappen fruits.
However, late treatments, with 10 ppm, either at the onset or during petal fall, produced good shaped fruits.
No differences were recorded either in initial or in final fruit set between treatments.
However, while the early treatment at flowering induced mainly a parthenocarpic setting, in the late treatment during petal fall, most of the fruits were seeded.
These results are discussed in terms of the mode of action of GA3 by prolonging embryo sac viability.
