LONG TERM BULK STORAGE OF RED BEETS IN FORCED VENTILATED CLAMPS IN COMPARISON WITH LONG TERM STORAGE IN MECHANICAL COOLING

Abstract
A comparison during three winter seasons of long term bulk storage of red beets in forced ventilated clamps with storage in mechanical cooling showed no differences in weight loss or quality after storage between the two systems.
With the forced ventilated clamp system product temperature was kept between 5 and 7 °C, which was realised with a rather low number of forced ventilation hours.
The last season the system was entirely self-regulating.
Because of the comparatively low costs of forced ventilated clamp storage it is concluded that this system is an attractive alternative to other storage systems for red beets.
