RESPONSE OF F1 ZUCCHINI HYBRIDS TO LOW NIGHT TEMPERATURE

Two zucchini hybrids were cultivated under plastic greenhouses with different night temperatures (7° and 13°C) to record the effect of low thermic regimes and to establish their adaptability to low temperature conditions.

"President" and "Albatros" zucchini hybrids were transplanted at the beginning of February in the greenhouse and the yield was recorded until the middle of June.

The two hybrids gave different responses to low night temperatures; "President" hybrid showed an earlier yield at low night temperature but the average weight of the fruits was reduced. "Albatros" hybrid, grown with low night temperatures, showed lower early yield but fruit weight was not affected.

Fuel consumption and crop return are evaluated in order to establish the best strategy in our climatic conditions.
In each of the hybrids the lower thermic regime (7°C at night) gave better economic results.
