Abstract
Since 1987 the INIAP fruticulture program, together with COTESU, have maintained a technological transfer program in andean fruticulture.
This program is aimed at small growers in the Ecuadorian Sierra with the recuperation of unkempt fruit orchards and the setting up of new plantations to increase the production, productivity and quality of fruit.

The technological transfer and organization by means of specialist technicians and demo cultures is described.
The principal problems of the andean fruit culture are discussed and some criteria are forwarded about technological transfer with an agroecological focus with special consideration given to the environment and the socioeconomic situation of the small andean grower.
