Abstract
Three clones of the MxM interspecific hybrid rootstocks (Prunus avium x Prunus mahaleb) for cherry (P. avium and/or P. cerasus) were propagated in vitro. The best basal medium for bud establishment in culture was Boxus medium for MxM 2 and MxM 60 clones and Tabachnik and Kester medium for MxM 46 clone.
The best basal medium for bud shoot proliferation was Almehdi and Parfitt (AP) medium containing different hormone compositions: 0.2 mg/l 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) and 0.01 mg/l indolebutyric acid (IBA) for MxM 2; 6 mg/l BA and 0.01 mg/l IBA for MxM 46 and 0.5 mg/l BA, 0.2 mg/l gibberelic acid (GA3) and 0.01 mg/l IBA for MxM 60. The shoot elongation medium was AP containing 0.2 mg/l BA and 0.01 mg/l IBA. The rooting medium was half strength of Murashige and Skoog medium containing 0.5 mg/l naphthalenacetic acid (NAA). Rooted microcuttings were successfully acclimated and grown in greenhouse and field conditions.
