Abstract
Faculty of Forestry of the University of Zagreb has initiated the development of the Arboretum Lisicine and is working on the establishment of the Arboretum Brijuni.
The two arboreta are at present the only major facilities of the kind in Croatia, as the 490-year old Arboretum Trsteno has been destroyed in the war at the end of 1991. For the past 20 years, in the nurseries of these arboreta and the Croatian Forests Company, as well as at the Faculty of Forestry, the work on obtaining new cultivars has been underway; particularly interesting are: Pinus sylvestris ‘Conica’, Juniperus communis ‘Lela’, Picea pungens ‘Kutjevo’, Picea sitchensis ‘Hajderovac’, Fagus sylvatica ‘Papuk’, and possible cultivars of variegated oaks.
