Abstract
Short single-node stem cutting cultures of potato plantlets were grown in vitro under two different inflow-air CO2 concentrations (Cin = 350 and 1000 μmol· mol-1) to investigate the contribution of photosynthesis of the cultures to their dry weight increase.
The ratios, on (CH2O)n basis, of saccharides (sucrose, glucose and fructose) uptake per culture, net production by photosynthesis per culture, overestimated and underestimated gross production by photosynthesis per culture to the dry weight increase of the cultures for 20 days were 0.95, 0.05, 4.06 and 3.11 respectively at Cin of 350 μmol· mol-1, and 0.80, 0.20, 3.61 and 2.81 respectively at Cin of 1000 μmol· mol-1. The results showed that the contribution of gross production by photosynthesis to the dry weight increase was greater than that of saccharides uptake even at Cin of 350 μmol· mol-1.
