Abstract
All shoot-tip explants from cloves of a late maturing garlic (Allium sativum L.) cultivar formed small bulbs 130 days or less after incubation at 21°C when the explants from cloves treated at 5°C for 30 days or more were incubated under 16-h or more photoperiods. In vitro bulbing was further promoted as the duration of cold treatment to cloves and the photoperiod were extended. In vitro bulb formation of sprout explants was promoted under the light sources containing far-red light. In vitro bulb growth was pronouncedly promoted under the light sources containing sufficient far-red light.
