Abstract
Petunia and Impatiens seedlings were grown in five combinations of pre-enriched peat and composted pine bark (CPB). The trial was arranged as a two rep split plot to facilitate two irrigation regimes designed to overcome differing wettabilities of peat and CPB. Dilute 16:5:16 was applied once or twice daily as required.
The plants were harvested after eight weeks and height of the tops, wet and dry mass of the roots and shoots were measured.

Significant trends show that CPB was as good as, if not superior to peat for propagation in bedding plant packs.
The results are discussed in relation to AFP data and nutrient analyses.
