Abstract
Plant sap analysis and substrate analysis were used to establish the effects of compost nutrient levels on sap nutrient levels in young Clematis plants.
Rooted cuttings of the cultivars "Hagley Hybrid" and "Polish Spirit" were potted into either peat or coir compost in April 1994. Plants and substrates were sampled for analysis at two week intervals from mid May to early July.
Rooted cuttings of the cultivars "Hagley Hybrid" and "Polish Spirit" were potted into either peat or coir compost in April 1994. Plants and substrates were sampled for analysis at two week intervals from mid May to early July.
The analysis results were used to define target levels of nutrients in young Clematis plants and the compost nutrient levels which are needed to achieve them.
The target levels will be used to monitor the nutritional status of commercial batches of plants before dispatch as part of an in-house quality assurance programme.
