Abstract
The influence of liquid nitrogen (LN) preservation on seeds of seven wild and crop Brassica taxa was studied.
Seed samples were immersed into LN and stored for either one day or 30 days.
Most studied taxa showed no significant differences between the germination percentages of control and cryopreserved seeds.
In addition, germination percentage of seed samples with different LN exposure times generally did not show significant differences either.
Similar results were found in the time to reach 50% final germination percentage (T50). The results obtained support that Brassica seed cryopreservation is a suitable procedure for the long-term maintenance of seed accessions of this qenus (wild and crop species) in seedbanks.
