Abstract
Tipburn is a disorder which normally appears during autumn and late spring crops of Chinese cabbage along the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
It is related to low calcium levels in young leaves, and is precipitated by rapid growth under high temperatures and conditions of low relative humidity.
Foliar applications of calcium chloride have proved to be effective in preventing this disorder.
The use of some plant growth inhibitors could also be effective as they might slow down the growth rate.

In two experiments carried out in 1993 and 1994 using the cultivar Misuka, we studied the possible effectiveness of two foliar applications of CCC at 1120 ppm and 2240 ppm, to see if it reduced tipburn, combined or not with calcium chloride, and compared also with calcium chloride sprayed at 2 g/litre, in four applications.

Neither of the two doses of CCC reduced the tipburn incidence in either year compared with the control plants.
Applications of calcium chloride, alone or combined with CCC, reduced the appearance of tipburn in both years.
