Abstract
Liatris callilepis is one of the three main Chilean cut flower exports in terms of exported volume, that reaches 7 000 boxes and it is expected to increase in the coming years.
No data are available in Chile on nutritional requirements of liatris.
A study was conducted to determine the dry matter accumulation and N, P, and K uptake under different levels of N, P, and K fertilization.
Liatris corms were field-planted in late spring in a soil high in organic matter and potassium.
The crop was fertilized with 0:0:0, 350:400:40, and 700:800:80 kg/ha of N, P2O5, and K2O, respectively.
At flower harvest uptake in the unfertilized treatment was 240 kg N, 30 kg P and 316 kg K per ha (corm content at planting time is not included). Total N uptake was highest in the treatment with the maximum N levels, while P and K uptake did not show significant differences among treatments, except in two stages of development.
Total dry matter accumulation and flower quality were unaffected by increased fertilizer dosage.
