Abstract
Leaf explants were excised from chilled shoots (at 4°C for 10 weeks in vitro) of Hyacinthus orientalis ‘Delft Blue’ and exposed to light of different spectral composition: white (390–760 nm), green (492–550 nm), yellow (550–588 nm), red (647–770 nm), blue (450–492 nm), far red (770–800 nm) and UV irradiation.
Explants were cultivated on solid MS medium containing: 90, 180, or 360 mM sucrose or glucose.

The type of carbohydrate and its concentration, as well as light treatment, affected regeneration.
Blue light stimulated proliferation of adventitious shoots and buds regardless of the type of carbohydrate.
The highest number of bulbing explants was obtained under of red light on low and medium concentrations of sucrose in the medium.
On the average, 360 mM glucose yielded the highest proliferation rate of adventitious buds, followed by 180 mM sucrose.
It was observed that blue light and UV irradiation promoted development of chlorophylls a and b.
Moreover, blue light raised the total amount of anthocyanins.
